Tinospora cordifolia

Giloy means ‘the one who protects the body’. It’s another name is Amrita- means ‘divine nectar ‘or immortal. This plant is quite indestructible-if you cut a vine off the main plant, it grows aerial roots and keeps growing, without water or soil. Giloy is considered as a prime rejuvenating herb in Ayurveda.

It is a large, climbing shrub found in North and South India. A deciduous unknown that grows to 1.0 meters (3.3 feet) high by 0.5 meters (1.65 feet) wide and prefers many types of soil ranging from acid to alkaline and partial to full sun with moderate moisture. This plant has hermaphrodite flowers.

1Tinospora cordifolia leaves enhanced the non-specific immune mechanisms. 2It is found to have immunomodulatory and antitumor actions mediated through activation of tumor-associated macrophages.

3The plant has been found effective in preventing fibrous changes and promotes regeneration of the liver from drug induced hepatic toxicity. It is a constituent of several compound preparations. It is used in fever, urinary disorders, dyspepsia, general debility and urinary diseases. It is also used in treatment of rheumatism and jaundice.  Giloy is balances all three Doshas- Vata, Pitta and Kapha because of its Tridosh-har nature. It nourishes all seven Dhatus and is one of the most useful Ayurveda. Giloy also cleanse Shrotas in body that makes free flow of energy through body.
