Asparagus racemosus
(Indian Asparagus) Shatavari:
It is a rejuvenating herb that cools the
body, strengthens and nourishes the tissues.
It may be taken by both women and men to
balance Vata and Pitta from the
system and to support the proper function of
the reproductive organs. Traditionally used to
stimulate the production of female hormones, Shatavari may be translated as
"having 100 spouses,"
implying its ability to increase fertility and
vitality. It encourages the production of milk
in lactating mothers, and is also useful
during menopause in women. Asparagus serves to
build immunity, improve the intellect,
stimulate digestion, and enhances strength and
energy. Shatavari also acts to soothe, protect
and nurture inflamed membranes of the lungs,
stomach, kidneys and reproductive organs.
It
is the main Ayurveda rejuvenative for women
which nourishes as well as cleanses the blood
and supports the female reproductive
functions. Shatavari is highly recommended for
menopause because it is a natural source of phytoestrogen and progesterone which ensure
smooth menopause. Recent research supports the
traditional use of Shatavari as a Rasayana, a
dietary supplement or as a rejuvenative for mental and physical
health, as well as providing a defense against
premature aging and challenging environmental
factors. Shatavari has the general ability to
promote normal physical functions and
counteract the adverse effects of stress. In
eight different stress tests, Shatavari
produced significant anti-stress and immuno-stimulant effects. It also promotes
normal endometrial growth and has tonifying as well as demulcent property which is
helpful for vata's dryness seen during
menopause. It also has a calming effect and
can be used for sleeplessness and a cooling
effect which is beneficial for hot flushhes.

(Indian Sarsaparilla) Anantmoola:

best blood purifier and Pitta pacifying
herb. It reduces the symptoms like hot flushes,

during menopause. Provides lubrication to all
the dried up micro channels of the body,

and thus improves the quality of body
tissues, especially the reproductive tissue.

botanical that helps in conditions like cystitis and

Dioscorea bulbifera
(Wild Yam) Varahi Kand:
The
pharmacologically active components of the
Dioscorea species include diosgenin,
which is a steroidal saponin, and dioscin, a
form of diosgenin with sugars attached.
Some studies indicate that diosgenin functions
as a plant estrogen, and fresh yams have been
used as estrogen replacement therapy. Plant
estrogens, or phytoestrogen (PEs), are
naturally occurring plant compounds that are
similar to mammalian
estrogen.
Dietary PEs can provide a wide range of health
benefits, including protection from the
development of some cancers, cardiovascular
disease, osteoporosis, and menopausal
symptoms. The Journal of the American Medical
Association recently published two studies
demonstrating that hormone replacement therapy
(HRT) poses an unacceptable health risk for
post-menopausal women. Fresh yams
have been used as an estrogen replacement
therapy and studies suggest that diosgenin
could protect against osteoporosis. It
also helps in regaining the sexual urge.

Glycyrrhiza glabra
(Licorice) Mulethi:
The major active
component in Licorice root is glycyrrhizin,
with minor components such as ß- sitosterol,
formononetin and coumarin. These compounds
have estrogenic and anti-estrogenic
capabilities. Glycyrrhizin binds with both estrogen
and androgen receptors weakly, although it had
no affinity for the progesterone receptor.
Licorice root supports the adrenal gland, one
of the likely modes that licorice helps with
menopausal symptoms. Licorice root heals and
restores the function of the adrenal glands,
helping to ease depression and chronic fatigue
during menopause. Licorice also contains
potassium, calcium, phytosterol, coumarin,
lecithin, protein, magnesium, silicon
(necessary for the formation of collagen for
bones and connective tissue), thiamine, and
Vitamins B and E. Its anti-inflammatory
properties extend to both internal and
external parts of the body. It also pacifies pitta symptoms like hot flushes, night
sweat, mood swing and anxiety. Also helps the

Amla is perhaps
the single most often mentioned herb in the
ayurvedic classic. It has a reputation as a
powerful rejuvenating herb. The fruit is
reputed to have the highest content of vitamin
C among any natural occurring substances in nature. It promotes ojas and the reproductive
fluids. In the studies, the pro-oxidant or
oxygen radical scavenger qualities of Amla
suggests that it is also very effective in
lowering the risk of many cancers including
breast cancer. Amla reduces
unwanted fat, which gets accumulated after
menopause because it increases total protein
levels. It nourishes each and every tissue of
the body including reproductive tissue. It
lengthens the reproductive phase of
woman i.e in other sense it delays the onset of
menopause. Its adaptogenic property helps the
woman to cope up with sudden hormonal
withdrawal symptoms. It pacifies pitta dosha.
