About Ayurveda
Cleansing
Ayurveda is the most ancient system of
healthcare with its roots extending to 5000
years. Its fundamental principles and
approaches inspite being very old are equally
contemporary and futuristic. Ayurveda is based
on the theory of harmonious blending of the
body, sense organs, mind and soul, which is
defined as life. The physical body is made up
of five fundamental qualities of matter (Panchmahabhoota)
i.e. Earth, Fire, Space, Air and Water. These
qualities of matter maintain equilibrium of
our body with eco system and the universe.
Ayurveda considers environment to be a major
factor in health care. Effects of climate,
weather and even geography of the land are
considered as factors in the diagnosis and
treatment of diseases. To counteract the
effects of doshas accumulating in each season
Ayurveda gives specific guidelines called
“Ritucharya” or Seasonal Routines. It is
based on some adjustments to diet and life
styles.
As earth moves /revolves around the sun in 365
¼ days it brings changes in the seasons and
also changes the doshas predominance in our
body. Each season brings with it, its own
challenges with respect to your health and
needs for balance. The time when the seasons
change is the best time to do a home cleansing
regime which helps you to remove the earlier
season's accumulated ama and prepare your body
physiology for the new season.
Ayurveda advocates a range of promotive,
preventive and curative measures in terms of
life style, diet and medications (Herbal food
Supplements) to cleanse the body and to
restore the eco-bio balance. Ayurvedic doctors
& practitioners highly recommend periodic
internal cleansing as a way to maintain good
health and to prevent disorders from taking
root in the physiology.
Ayurvedic
cleansing essentially refers to bio
purification of the body aiming to cleanse the
macro and micro channels of the biological
system known as Shrotas, which is
essential to permit free flow of nutrients,
energy and the benefits of herbs besides
permitting the free passage of toxins out of
the body.

The human body is made up of several organs,
tissues and systems which performs different
functions essential for maintaining the life
process. The basic structural unit of life is
a single cell which consists of its boundaries
i.e. cell membrane. Similarly all the visceral
organs are lined by a dynamic membrane system
which performs the most dynamic function of
the molecular transport system in the
concerning organ and tissue in a rhythmic
manner.
Very similar to this molecular transport
system, Ayurveda propounds a comprehensive
concept of Shrotas system. According to
ayurveda human body is made up of innumerable
channels i.e. Shrotas, which are macro or
micro structures having a space inside, may
have openings and has contents in the inner
space and also which has inherent tendency to
vibrate and move.
This definition of shrotas encompasses the
major channels of the body like Gastro
intestinal tract, Urinary tract, respiratory
tract etc, besides the medium size channels of
the body like the micro tubular structures
such as Nephrons, Seminiferous tubules etc.
The minutest unit of shrotas system is a
single cell which too has space inside, has
openings in the form of pores of the cell
membrane, has contents inside and it vibrates.
So whole of membrane system is comparable to
the concept of shrotas in ayurveda.

Why You need to cleanse your system:
Aggravation of doshas or bodily humours
i.e. Vata, Pitta, Kapha and Accumulation
of Ama are the prime cause for malfunctioning
of shrotas. Due to continuous wear and tear
and by entry of exogenous deleterious elements
into the body both in the form of food or the
pollution of the environment and also because
of deleterious influence of different seasons,
toxins may build up in the body and gets
adhere to body tissues which in turn can get
vitiated. Ama refers to toxins produced due to
incomplete digestion and assimilated in the
body. This Ama becomes toxic to the physiology
if allowed to stay in the body or build up
over time. Ama is not only inherently toxic in
itself; it also clogs the channels of the body
called shrotas. Due to this the membrane
system gets thickened and becomes obliterated
in due course further disrupting the flow of
nutrients and energy and leading to an
escalating cycle of toxin build-up. This
interrupts the shrotas function
and biological transport system leading in
turn not only to loss of function but also to
further structural distortion. If such a
condition is allowed to continue it gives way
to different kinds of diseases depending upon
the nature and the extent of shrotas
distortion and its site. In general Ama is
fertile ground for infections and disorders to
take root and flourish.

What happens when you have Ama build up:
The following are general indications that you
may have an accumulation of toxins or ama in
your physiology:
1. Your tongue has a white coating in the
morning when you wake up.
2. You feel tired and lethargic all day
long, even though you eat well and sleep
well.
3. Your appetite is poor or you crave junk
foods.
4. You feel a general lack of motivation or
zest for life.
5. You feel "spaced out" and your mind is
cloudy and unable to focus on things.
6. You experience abdominal bloating and
gas, especially after a main meal.
7. You feel heavy and congested or
constipated.
8. You have a general sense of malaise, with
vague aches and pains.
top
If you experience two or more of the above on
a regular basis, your physiology would
probably need a cleansing regime. Cleansing in
the form of oral administration of herbs or
herbal food supplements enhances the digestive
power that reduces the possibility of
production and assimilation of Ama and helps
expel the accumulated toxins from the body.
When to go for ayurvedic cleansing:
Ayurveda recommends a seasonal routine (ritucharya)
as well as daily routine (dinacharya). Each
season brings with it its own challenges with
respect to your health and needs for balance.
The time when the seasons change is the best
time to do a home cleansing regime which helps
you to remove the earlier season's accumulated
ama and prepare your body physiology for the
new season.
Spring, especially, is considered an ideal
time to rejuvenate the physiology, in keeping
with Nature's own calendar for rejuvenation.
With the melting of the snows and the thawing
of the ground, the fluids in the body also
start flowing more freely, and performing an
internal cleansing routine at this time
accelerates the process of flushing out toxins
from the physiology.

Why Detoxification during spring season:
Spring, especially, is considered an ideal
time to rejuvenate the physiology, in keeping
with Nature's own calendar for rejuvenation.
Spring is a
time to welcome the sun and the coming warmth
of summer and time to celebrate the fresh
burst of energy which brings many forms of
life. As we move from winter in which kapha
energy (water & earth) predominates to spring
the heat of pitta melts the kapha in the
environment sparking new growth and life. In
our bodies this also occurs making spring time
when many ailments can begin to surface in our
body.
Thus with the melting of the snows and the thawing
of the ground, the fluids in the body also
start flowing more freely, and performing an
internal cleansing routine at this time
accelerates the flushing of toxins from the
physiology.
Detoxification reverses the negative effects
of stress and slows down the ageing process.
It induces deep relaxation and peace of mind.
It enhances your self reliance and self esteem
and helps you become more enthusiastic for
life.
Moreover into the beauty of spring you may
confront with multiple problems related with
this season like Pollen allergies, hay fever,
skin infections, bronchial asthma,
gastrointestinal infection, dehydration and
sunstrokes and thus the spring cleansing
regimen helps strengthens the immune system to
become more resistant to illness.
