Acidity roughly constitutes disorders of
acid production in the stomach resulting in
various digestive abnormalities. This has
been one of the most common prevailing
problems in present days due to the
changing lifestyles and
unhealthy dietary routine. The ultramodern competitive
stressful life, more inclination towards fast, junk,
processed and excessive spicy foods, cold
drinks, too much alcohol etc. are among the
most common causative factor for unbalancing
stomach acid. The most common symptoms of
imbalanced stomach acid are
heart burn, sour eructation, nausea, vomiting, loose stools, pain in the abdomen aggravating
usually after the intake of food or on empty
stomach.
Acigard is a completely unique and well
proven formula for balancing
stomach acid and helps to counter any
disturbances of digestive process in the
gastro intestinal tract.
It is unique because it contains
herbs and minerals which
not only balances the production
of acids but also
nourishes the mucous
membrane of the stomach and
kills the unwanted pathogens in
the stomach and other parts of
gastro intestinal tract. This

Emblica officinalis, Indian Gooseberry:
(Amalaki Rasayana):
This
wonder herb helps your body to get most
out of the food you eat by keeping all
the factors responsible for digestion in
balance. It enhances metabolic fires
gently, without increasing body heat and
stomach acid. Amalaki Rasayana is a rich
source of Vitamin C that helps create a
balanced acidic environment in the
stomach which inhibits the growth of the
bacteria and enhances food absorption. It works more slowly and gently than
ginger or other digestion-enhancing
herbs, so it can be taken by people with
a lot of Pitta without fear of creating
excess stomach acid. Amalaki Rasayana is
ideal for calming hyperacidity and other
Pitta-related digestive problems.
Amalaki fortifies the liver/lung/kidney
and is good for the brain. It nourishes
the brain and mental functioning and helps
counter the bad effect of stress and
anxiety. It can support the brain during
cephalic phase of digestion thus helps in
normal secretion of stomach acid. The
traditional ayurvedic processing of
Amalaki enhances its potency and increases
the natural intelligence of the fruit and
enables it to bring about rapid healing of
mucosal damage whilst providing prompt
relief from distressing symptoms like
heartburn, nausea, vomiting, epigastric
pain and other symptoms of peptic/duodenal ulcer.

Glycyrrhiza
glabra, Licorice (Mulethi):
Licorice has a number of medicinal
properties including peptic ulcer
healing, anti-inflammatory,
antimicrobial and antioxidant
activities. Licorice was found to
stimulate and accelerate the
differentiation of glandular cells in
the stomach as well as stimulate mucus
formation and secretion. It contains
some flavonoids that have antimicrobial
activity, including activity against the
ulcer-causing bacterium Helicobacter
pylori. Several studies have
demonstrated positive effects from the
use of licorice in gastric and duodenal
ulcer conditions. Studies have shown
that Licorice is as effective as
presently used antacid cimetidine and
ranitidine for both treatment and
maintenance therapy of gastric ulcers.
Licorice appears to confer significant
protection against the gastric mucosal
damage caused by aspirin and other
nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
Gastric bleeding induced by aspirin
intake can also be reduced with licorice
supplementation.

Turbinella
rapa, Conch Shell, Shankha Bhasma:
A marine treasure discovered by ancient
sages for the treatment of various
gastric problems which helps increase
digestive fire, digest toxic ama, and
pacifies excess pitta. It is abundantly
used in Ayurveda for controlling
symptoms like heart burn, sour
eructation, pain in abdomen, indigestion
etc. It is especially useful when
increased stomach acids cause loose or
frequent stools. Conch shell is a good
source of calcium which is
an essential component in the production
of various enzymes and hormones that
regulate digestion and other bodily
functions. Insufficient presence of
calcium can cause low pH which in long
term can cause chronic
acidosis. Turbinella rapa used here is
specially processed with lemon juice
which enables it to maintain pH of the
stomach more efficiently.

Mineral Salt(Shwet Parpati):
A
classical ayurvedic preparation used as
good buffering agent especially useful
when low digestive fire causes
indigestion and pain in abdomen It helps
elevate the pH when it is too low (more
acidic) and neutralizes its harmful
effects. It is a good source of
electrolytes which are lost due to long
standing acid peptic disorder.

Saccharum
officinarum, Sugarcane (Mishri):
It is used as natural sweetener in
ayurvedic formulation and as good
pitta-vata pacifier. It reduces the
excess of heat in the body and stimulates
bile secretion thus brings back the
equilibrium of Soma (coolness) and Agni
(Heat) i.e. alkali and acid balance. It
prevents bacterial growth inside stomach
(bactericide). Sugar present in it
causes granulation in the ulcer and
heals it. Its rich fiber content helps
in maintaining normal bowel movements
thus helps in diarrhea and dysentery. A
good refrigerant so counters hyper
acidity and prevents symptoms like heart
burn, sour eructation, pain in abdomen
etc. It also provides lost nutrients
like thiamine, riboflavin, niacin for a
healthy mucosa.

Asparagus
racemosus, Indian Asparagus (Shatavari):
This ayurvedic rasayna nourishes mucosal
lining of stomach, reduces inflammation
and acts as a buffering agent. Shatavari
reduces ill effect of chronic acid
peptic disorder as well as strengthens
nervous system and controls acid
secretion.
Study of anti ulcer and anti secretory
activity of Asparagus
racemosus in various cases of
gastric ulcer showed significant
reduction in the ulcer index,
volume of gastric secretion, free
acidity, and total acidity. A
significant increase in the total
carbohydrate and total
carbohydrate/protein ratio
was also observed after intake of
Asparagus racemosus. Study also
indicated an increase in
antioxidant defense, that is, anti
oxidant enzymes super oxide dismutase,
catalase, and ascorbic acid
increased significantly, whereas
a significant decrease in
oxidating enzyme lipid peroxidation was
observed. A. racemosus
was found more effective in reducing
drug and stress induced gastric
ulcer.

Syzygium
aromaticum, Clove (Lavang):
Clove has been used since centuries to
overcome the ailments of stomach,
bowel and liver and as a stimulant for
the nerves. It relieves gastric
complaints like bloating, belching and
nausea and balances Samana and Apana
vata thus controls digestive fire,
secretion of bile and stomach acid
mediated by Vagus nerve. A clove has
also been listed as having antiseptic
and antibacterial properties thus
provides good protection against
H.pylori.

Cypraea moneta, Cowrie Shell (Kapardika):
This cooling mineral rich agent which
has significant cytoprotective
action also tones up gastric and
duodenal mucosa and makes them resistant
to the corrosive action of acid. It
shows prompt neutralizing action on
gastric acid and favours healing of an
existing peptic or duodenal ulcer. It
pacifies Vata. Promotes Kapha and
neutralizes hyperactive Pitta thus
reduces pain and burning which occurs
either during digestion or after
digestion.

Zingiber
officinale, Ginger (Shunthi):
Ginger has been used to aid digestion
and to treat stomach upset, diarrhea,
nausea and
ulcers. It digests
ama and improves cellular metabolism.
The phenolic compounds present in ginger
are responsible for relaxing the muscles
of the stomach which may also explain
their effect in easing travel or motion
sickness. Both Fresh or dried ginger
has been shown to minimize nausea and
vomiting. In addition, the phenolic
content of ginger acts within the
stomach and helps to reduce
over-activity of the gut. In stomach
infections, it acts as an antiseptic
and an anti-inflammatory. The anti-ulcer
effect of ginger is due to its overall
effect on digestion, which includes
relief of both
diarrhea
and
constipation, liver
protection and pro-biotic support.

Cinnamomum zeylanicum, Cinnamomon (Dalchini):
Two active compounds found in cinnamon
[3-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-propanoic acid and
its O-glucoside] prevents
serotonin-induced ulcerogenesis .They
also inhibit gastric ulcers induced by
the other ulcerogens such as
phenylbutazone, ethanol and stress. They
minutely inhibit the secretion of
gastric acid as well as promote the
gastric blood flow. These results
suggest that the antiulcerogenic effect
of this compound of cinnamon is probably
due to the stimulation of defensive
factors through the improvement of the
circulatory disorder and gastric
cytoprotection.
