Sleep is a physiological phenomenon which
affects daily functioning and physical and
mental health in many ways. It is an
essential requirement for life and good
health like food.
Normal sleep maintains the life span of an
individual and is necessary for the nervous
system to work properly. Improper sleep
makes you drowsy, leads to lack of
concentration power, memory problems,
clumsiness, decreases your mental ability,
produces hallucinations, mood swings and
decreases your immunity.
As per Ayurveda proper sleep brings
happiness, nourishes and revitalizes
every tissue of the body, maintains physical
and mental strength, enhances vitality,
improves memory and concentration power and
leads to a healthy and long life. Deep sleep
induces the secretion of an important growth
hormone, body cells regenerate during deep
sleep, they grow and repair damage caused by
stress and U. V. rays.

Recommended Dose:
1-2 tablets two times a day
preferably morning and evening with
water or warm milk.
Suggested Duration: For the optimal
result to be taken for minimum 3-6 month. It
can be continued for long period as it is a
safe non habit forming which carries no drowsy
or any other side effects.
Dietary Advice:
Food and beverages that contain alcohol or
caffeine (such as coffee, tea, cola drinks,
and chocolate) can interfere with sleep, as
can appetite suppressants and diuretics. Hence
these substances should not be consumed,
especially near bedtime. Quitting smoking may
help. Drinking a large amount of alcohol in
the evening causes early morning awakenings.
Take fresh fruits and vegetables that provide
a raw material for brain relaxing
neuro-hormones.
Lifestyle
Recommendation: Maintain a dark
and quite atmosphere in bedroom and
go to bed at the
same time each night and, more importantly,
get up at the same time each morning, even on
weekends.
Regularly massage your body especially head
and feet before going to bed.

Bacopa monnieri (Thyme Leaved Gratiola)
Brahmi:
Bacopa or Brahmi is a great nervine tonic,
immuno-modulator, adaptogen, tranquilizing,
memory enhancing, cerebral activator,
anti-ulcer, antispasmodic, free radicals
scavenging ayurvedic herb.
It protects mental functions and supports the
physiological processes involved in
relaxation, assists in feeling
a greater sense of well being during periods
of restlessness, anxiety, insomnia, fatigue,
cloudiness of thought & overactive mind.
It
shows tranquilizing effect but ,unlike sedatives (drugs which induce sleep) which
often have side effect of dulling the mind, it
actually improves mental clearity, increases
body’s intelligence and brings back the
normal biological cycle of the body. It is
also used as a anti anxiety agent, to calm
restlessness specially in children, and to
cure several mental disorders.
According to various researches it shows
sedative and anti-depressant action by
increasing the effect of Serotonin (a brain
chemical known to promote relaxation and
sleep) by blocking their intracellular
depletion. Herasaponin present in Bacopa also
exhibits calming sedative action and thus
reduce sleeplessness.
