Prostate is a gland that surrounds the
bottom portion (neck) of male bladder and
extends up to the Urethra (Tube that
drains urine from the bladder).
The main purpose of prostate is to produce
semen which transports sperm during the male
orgasm.
As
the age advances, prostate gland in most of
men aged between 51-60 years and in 90%
of the men over the age of 70 years starts
to grow enormously resulting in hypertrophy
of prostate gland which is known as BPH (Benign
Prostatic Hypertrophy). Various
studies suggest that high level of
di-hydroxytestosterone (DHT), a substance
derived from male sex hormone testosterone
encourages the excess growth of cells in the
prostate.
As the prostate enlarges, the
layer of tissue surrounding it stops it from
expanding, causing the gland to press
against the urethra like a clamp on a garden
hose. The bladder wall becomes thicker and
irritable. The bladder begins to contract
even when it contains small amounts of
urine, causing more frequent urination.
Eventually,
the bladder weakens and loses the ability to
empty itself. Urine remains in the bladder. The
narrowing of the urethra and partial emptying of
the bladder causes many of the problems
associated with uro-genital tract

Commiphora mukul (Indian Bedellium) Guggul:
